“I’m sure it’ll work, babe,” Tom smiled softly. “We need to try. We’ll find him and Mordred will be fine.”

Jace took a deep breath and took his phone out of his pocket. He was relieved when the Doctor picked up the phone and said he’d come help them. Apparently it was bad enough that a kid from Camelot had found his way to Jace and Tom, having him sent some place else by a Weeping Angel was even worse. 

“He’s coming.”

Tom nodded and took a deep breath, trying to stay calm. He rubbed his face for a moment, wondering what they could do. “He’ll be fine, right?” He muttered. “We’ll find him.”

Jace picked up another file and started flipping through it. “Here!” He grabbed a small piece of paper,” He looked it over. “This is it, but…I don’t know if it’ll work. I mean The Doctor coulda been gone for centuries. What if it doesn’t work?”

“I’m sure it’ll work, babe,” Tom smiled softly. “We need to try. We’ll find him and Mordred will be fine.”

“Let’s check your old stuff, then,” Tom held Jace’s hand again, leading him to the basement. He looked around, sighing. “You sure it’s here, right?”

“It’s gotta be,” Jace said picking through some of the files John had put together since they moved into the house. It was ridiculous how much stuff his father hoarded. He picked one up. “This one’s about me. Look,” He handed it to Tom.

Tom nodded softly and took the file, checking it quickly. “I see. Well, let’s find that number. I hope it’s still here.”

“Please don’t promise anything right now. Not before we know anything,” He held tightly to Tom’s hand following him to the car. They drove to Mary’s place. No one was home.”It’s with Dad’s stuff in the basement. The stuff from when I was baby.”

“Let’s check your old stuff, then,” Tom held Jace’s hand again, leading him to the basement. He looked around, sighing. “You sure it’s here, right?”

“Sure, baby,” Tom nodded. “It wasn’t your fault, Jay. Come on, let’s go.”

“Then whose fault was it? Because it’s our job to protect him. What if he’s…What if he doesn’t come back? What if it took him back to Camelot and he doesn’t come back?” Jace shook his head. “The car. We need to hurry,” He walked away practically running for home.

Tom sighed softly, shaking his head, and followed Jace. He entered home and looked around, taking the car keys. “We’ll find him, Jay. I promise you, we’ll find him.” He muttered, holding Jace’s hand and pulling him toward the car.

“If he doesn’t we’ll find something else. I’ll do anything I gotta do to get him back. C’mon, let’s…Let’s go to Mom’s house. I shoulda….I shoulda kept better track of that damn thing,” He let go of Tommy. “We need the car. It’ll be faster.”

“Sure, baby,” Tom nodded. “It wasn’t your fault, Jay. Come on, let’s go.”

“He’ll be fine, Jay. Let’s find a way to call the Doctor, okay?” Tom hugged Jace tight, kissing him. “We’ll find him, baby. I promise.”

He  hugged him back and took a deep breath, “He left a number or I guess it’s a number. It’s kinda a huge string of numbers. Don’t know if I can actually call it, but we can try. It’s at my parents house in the basement somewhere. He left it after he helped me when I was little. We’ll find it. He’ll come. He has to.”

“I’m sure he’ll come, baby,” Tom kissed Jace’s forehead. “Come on let’s find this number. We’ll find Mordred in no time and he’ll be fine.”

“We’ll find a way. We should know what that thing is.” Tom kissed Jace’s forehead. “We’ll find him, Jay. He’ll be safe. Let’s just keep calm and find out what we need.”

“The Doctor would know. He knows everything, but I…I…Don’t know how to find him. He usually just shows up when you’re not looking for him,” Jace hugged Tom tight. “What if he’s scared?” He shook his head not wanting to think about that. “We’ll find him,” He said instead. “We’ll find him.”

“He’ll be fine, Jay. Let’s find a way to call the Doctor, okay?” Tom hugged Jace tight, kissing him. “We’ll find him, baby. I promise.”

Tom held Jace close. “Hey, we’ll find him, okay? I promise, we will.”

He looked around and pulled Jace close, hugging him tight. “We’ll find him,” he repeated.

“What if that thing hurts him? I don’t…How do we even start?” He hugged Thomas back tight. “Who do we even ask to get him back or figure out where he went? We promised we’d take care of him.”

“We’ll find a way. We should know what that thing is.” Tom kissed Jace’s forehead. “We’ll find him, Jay. He’ll be safe. Let’s just keep calm and find out what we need.”

Jace felt his heart rate picking up. They were gone just gone.

“I don’t…I don’t…” He looked around and swallowed hard no sign of the statue or Mordred. “They can’t be gone. They can’t be. We have to find him. We can’t lose him. We promised we’d protect him,” Jace balled his hands into fist.

Tom held Jace close. “Hey, we’ll find him, okay? I promise, we will.”

He looked around and pulled Jace close, hugging him tight. “We’ll find him,” he repeated.

Tom pulled Jace and Mordred close, trying to not freak out. “That’s okay. Let’s get out of here, quickly.”

“Every time we turn around, it gets closer,” Jace said. “We gotta…We gotta look at it,” Jace was guessing, but it made sense, he guess. He took a few steps back, but blinked. The next second the creature was right on top of him. He blinked again and the angel reached Mordred. They both disappeared. 

“No!” Jace screamed.

Tom tried to reach Mordred, but failed. He looked around quickly, wanting to find the boy, and rubbed his face, trying to keep calm, but it wasn’t helping. He looked at Jace.

“Where is he, Jay?” He asked softly, licking his lips, nervous.

“I dunno…” Jace said he looked over at Tom and Mordred then back at the statue. “Is it…Getting closer?” He blinked and could have sworn it was closer. “Let’s go,” He reached for Tom’s hand and turned his back on the statue. “I don’t care what it is. Let’s not make it our problem.”

He turned back around and suddenly the statue was right behind them.

Tom pulled Jace and Mordred close, trying to not freak out. “That’s okay. Let’s get out of here, quickly.”

Mordred wanted to go practice his magic in the woods. Jace hated the idea of him going off on his own and they owed him another boys day out. It didn’t seem fair to drag him to arcades and amusement parks when he really didn’t like them so Jace agreed that he and Tom would watch him practice. It also meant they could make sure that he didn’t overdo it.

They’d been out in the woods behind the park for a few hours when Jace thought he saw something through the trees.

“Tom…Tommy?” He looked over at his husband then back at the trees. “Do you see that?”

“I think its getting closer.”

Tom looked around as he heard Jace and frowned. He pulled Mordred close, not wanting him to go to that trees, and nodded.

“What the hell is that, Jay?” He asked softly.

Tom grabbed a piece of pizza and nibbled it, nodding. “Yeah, but it was nice.”

“It was,” Jace agreed taking another piece. “I’m glad we did it. We’re gonna have to do this much more often.”

“Yeah, it’ll be awesome.” Tom smiled at Mordred. “Right, kiddo?”

Mordred nodded and smiled, taking a piece of pizza.

Mordred sat down and smiled softly at them.

Tom smiled and kissed Jace’s cheek. “I love you.”

“Love you,” He kissed Tom gently. He grabbed a piece of pizza and slumped into a nearby chair. “That was a tiring day,” He chuckled.

Tom grabbed a piece of pizza and nibbled it, nodding. “Yeah, but it was nice.”

“Yeah, it’d be really nice,” Tom nodded and smiled at Mordred. “Right, bud? Would you like it?”

“Yes.”

“Good,” He sat the pizza down on the coffee table. “Dig in, guys.”

Mordred sat down and smiled softly at them.

Tom smiled and kissed Jace’s cheek. “I love you.”

Mordred nodded again and chuckled. “It was very nice. Thank you.”

“You don’t need to thank us, bud.”

“I’m glad you had fun,” They drove home picking up pizza on the way. “We gotta do this more often. A day with just the three of us. Mom doesn’t mind watching Claudia.”

“Yeah, it’d be really nice,” Tom nodded and smiled at Mordred. “Right, bud? Would you like it?”

“Yes.”

Mordred smiled and snuggled at Jace, nodding softly.

“Yeah, bud. You’re our kid and we love you so much.”

Jace got him settled in the backseat, “It was a lot of fun,” Jace said ruffling his hair before climbing in the front seat.

Mordred nodded again and chuckled. “It was very nice. Thank you.”

“You don’t need to thank us, bud.”

“We can go home now,” Mordred said softly, smiling a bit.

“Well, let’s go home, then. We’re glad you had fun today, bud.”

“Yeah, I’m glad you liked it,” He picked Mordred up as they headed back to the car. “We love you, buddy.”

Mordred smiled and snuggled at Jace, nodding softly.

“Yeah, bud. You’re our kid and we love you so much.”

Mordred chuckled and nodded, smiling at Jace again. “Yes. It’s very nice.”

The ride ended and the guard rail went up, “Wanna try anything else or you ready to head home, bud? We got a sleepover to get ready for.”

“We can go home now,” Mordred said softly, smiling a bit.

“Well, let’s go home, then. We’re glad you had fun today, bud.”

Mordred relaxed after a few time, enjoying the ride. He chuckled softly and smiled at Jace for a moment.

Jace smiled back at him glad he was enjoying it. He yelled as they went down a steep drop. “Having fun?”

Mordred chuckled and nodded, smiling at Jace again. “Yes. It’s very nice.”

Mordred nodded and held onto the rail, getting nervous.

The ride started up. It went a little faster than Jace thought it would, but it wasn’t too bad. He kept an eye on Mordred out of the corner of his eye.

Mordred relaxed after a few time, enjoying the ride. He chuckled softly and smiled at Jace for a moment.

Mordred smiled again, still a bit nervous, and looked around for a moment.

“That’s okay, bud. Don’t worry.”

“If you don’t like it, we’ll go home after this, ‘k?” He smiled. “No pressure.” 

He kissed the top of his head before holding onto the rail as the ride started up.

Mordred nodded and held onto the rail, getting nervous.

Mordred snuggled at Jace and smiled softly.

“Having fun, kiddo?” Tom asked softly and the kid nodded. “Good.”

Jace smiled at him and ruffled his hair. They stepped up to get on the ride when it was their turn, the operator putting the guard rail down in front of him. “I’m glad you’re having fun.”

Mordred smiled again, still a bit nervous, and looked around for a moment.

“That’s okay, bud. Don’t worry.”

“I think so,” Mordred nodded again and held Jace’s hand.

“Alright, let’s give it a try,” He walked Mordred over to the ride and they got in line to wait for their turn.

Mordred snuggled at Jace and smiled softly.

“Having fun, kiddo?” Tom asked softly and the kid nodded. “Good.”

Mordred chuckled softly and nodded, smiling at Jace. “Yes. It was really nice.”

“Good,” Jace smiled at him. “Think you could handle that?” He pointed to another roller coaster that was still small but a little bigger and a little faster.

“I think so,” Mordred nodded again and held Jace’s hand.

Mordred nodded and held on tight, a bit nervous.

Tom smiled softly and kissed the kid’s hair. “It’s okay, bud.”

Jace was glad when the ride started that it wasn’t too bad. It was a little faster than a merry-go-round, but not as fast or as high as some of the other rollercoasters. It did manage to get them wet, however. 

“You okay?” He asked Mordred when the ride stopped.

Mordred chuckled softly and nodded, smiling at Jace. “Yes. It was really nice.”

Mordred looked up at the water ride and tilted his head, nodding softly. “Yes, it looks interesting.”

“Okay, let’s give it a shot,” They wait in line for a little while before its their turn. They sit with Mordred between them. “Hold on tight, buddy.”

Mordred nodded and held on tight, a bit nervous.

Tom smiled softly and kissed the kid’s hair. “It’s okay, bud.”

Mordred looked around, a bit curious. “I don’t know…”

Tom wrapped an arm around Jace. 

“How about that?” He pointed to a small water ride that was like a small roller coaster. “That doesn’t look too bad.”

Mordred looked up at the water ride and tilted his head, nodding softly. “Yes, it looks interesting.”

“Okay,” Mordred smiled softly and squeezed Jace’s hand.

Tom smiled and kissed Jace’s cheek.

Jace squeezed his hand back. He put his other arm around Tom’s waist. They walked around the grounds for a while, “See anything you like?”

Mordred looked around, a bit curious. “I don’t know…”

Tom wrapped an arm around Jace.

Mordred nodded again and snuggled at Jace. “It won’t be scary, right?”

“Of course, bud.”

“If it looks scary, we won’t go on. If you don’t see anything, we’ll just play a game or something, okay?”

“Okay,” Mordred smiled softly and squeezed Jace’s hand.

Tom smiled and kissed Jace’s cheek.

Mordred nodded and smiled, holding Jace’s hand. “It was nice and weird.”

Tom chuckled and kissed the kid’s forehead.

“Good,” He held his hand tight. “Now have a look around and pick the next ride.”

Mordred nodded again and snuggled at Jace. “It won’t be scary, right?”

“Of course, bud.”

Mordred hesitated, but smiled again and relaxed.

Tom smiled, just watching them.

Jace enjoyed the ride spending most of it keeping an eye on Mordred. When they stopped he lifted Mordred off. “Fun?”

Mordred nodded and smiled, holding Jace’s hand. “It was nice and weird.”

Tom chuckled and kissed the kid’s forehead.

Mordred smiled softly and tried to relax.

Jace smiled at the kid as the ride started up. It was slow enough that Jace hoped h he’d have fun and not be scared.

Mordred hesitated, but smiled again and relaxed.

Tom smiled, just watching them.

Mordred nodded again and looked around, a bit wary.

Tom chuckled softly and smiled at them. “That’s okay, bud. Don’t worry.”

“It’s okay. I’m right here and they aren’t gonna let anyone get off while the rides going so you don’t gotta worry about people coming on. Just relax. Have some fun.”

Mordred smiled softly and tried to relax.

“That’s okay,” Mordred smiled softly and nodded, squeezing Jace’s hand again. 

“So go ahead, buddy.”

“Okay, I’ll be right next to you then,” Jace smiled at him leading him up on the ride and lifting him onto one of the horses before sitting on one beside him.

Mordred nodded again and looked around, a bit wary.

Tom chuckled softly and smiled at them. “That’s okay, bud. Don’t worry.”

Mordred looked around and nodded. “Yes, I think I can try that.”

“They’ll let me stand next to you, if you want,” Jace said not sure if Mordred would want that or not. “If not I’ll go beside you on one of the other horses.”

“That’s okay,” Mordred smiled softly and nodded, squeezing Jace’s hand again. 

“So go ahead, buddy.”

Mordred chuckled softly and nodded. “Okay.”

“Good,” He ruffled his hair and they walked through the park. “The merry-go-round isn’t so scary. Wanna try that?”

Mordred looked around and nodded. “Yes, I think I can try that.”

“Okay,” Mordred smiled softly and squeezed Jace’s hand. “Thank you.”

Tom smiled and ruffled the kid’s hair.

“Stop saying thank you,” Jace teased. “It’s very sweet of you, but…We want you to be a kid and kids don’t say thank you every two seconds,” He winked at him.

Mordred chuckled softly and nodded. “Okay.”

“I see…” Mordred snuggled at Jace and looked around. “They look scary…”

“Don’t worry, buddy.”

“I know, bud,” Jace said. “We can walk around til we find something less scary. You can pick anything you want.”

“Okay,” Mordred smiled softly and squeezed Jace’s hand. “Thank you.”

Tom smiled and ruffled the kid’s hair.

“What’s that?” Mordred looked up at Jace, curious.

“That,” He pointed to a rollercoaster. “Is a rollercoast. And that,” He pointed to the merry go round. “Is a Merry Go Round,” He pointed to some other rides. “You’ve also got a Ferris Wheel, swings that spin around, things that go back and forth…Anything you want.”

“I see…” Mordred snuggled at Jace and looked around. “They look scary…”

“Don’t worry, buddy.”

“I know. I’m sure it’ll be really nice,” Mordred smiled again.

“Yeah, it will.”

Jace got out of the car and let Mordred out taking his hand. “Wanna try a rollercoaster or start with something less intense like the merry go round?”

“What’s that?” Mordred looked up at Jace, curious.

Mordred hesitated but nodded, smiling softly. “I’m fine.”

“But that’s okay if you need a break, bud,” Tom smiled at the kid.

“Or if we do,” Jace smiled at him. “It’ll be fun. I promise. We wouldn’t take you anywhere not fun.”

“I know. I’m sure it’ll be really nice,” Mordred smiled again.

“Yeah, it will.”

Tom nodded and grinned. “Of course we are. We’re a great family, babe.”

They drove to the amusement park. It was busier than Jace thought it would be. He glanced at Mordred, “If you need a break at any point, just say the word, bud.”

Mordred hesitated but nodded, smiling softly. “I’m fine.”

“But that’s okay if you need a break, bud,” Tom smiled at the kid.

Tom smiled again and kissed Jace gently. “I love you so much, Jay.”

Jace reached over and squeezed his shoulder, “We’re a good family, aren’t we?”

Tom nodded and grinned. “Of course we are. We’re a great family, babe.”

Mordred nodded and smiled. “Thank you. I’m sure it’ll be fun.”

“Yeah.” Tom smiled and got in the car, kissing Jace’s cheek.

“Okay, bud, no pressure,” He smiled at the boy and then at Tom. “I love you, baby. So much.”

Tom smiled again and kissed Jace gently. “I love you so much, Jay.”

“I see,” Mordred smiled softly and nodded again.

“Yeah, and I think you’ll like it. It’s very nice.”

“And if you don’t,” Jace shrugged not wanting him to feel too bad if he didn’t like it. “No big deal. We’ll just think of something else.” He got in the car.

Mordred nodded and smiled. “Thank you. I’m sure it’ll be fun.”

“Yeah.” Tom smiled and got in the car, kissing Jace’s cheek.

“It sounds interesting,” Mordred smiled and nodded. “We can go to that… Park.”

“Alright then.Let’s try the amusement park. It’s sorta like an arcade with more rides and outside,” Jace explained carrying Mordred to the car. He opened the backseat and sat him down. “Better leave your fox in the car, though, so we don’t move him. Maybe we’ll win some friends for him while we’re there.”

“I see,” Mordred smiled softly and nodded again.

“Yeah, and I think you’ll like it. It’s very nice.”

“I don’t know…” Mordred shook his head, snuggling the fox.

“Yeah? Mm… We could go to an amusement park.”

“That could be fun or an arcade. You can pick, buddy. Either one,” Jace suggested rubbing his back. “Or anything else. You don’t have to worry about what you wanna do as long as you like it.”

“It sounds interesting,” Mordred smiled and nodded. “We can go to that… Park.”

“Well, do you wanna do something else, kiddo?”

“Yeah, c’mon, buddy, there’s gotta be somewhere else you wanna go before we call it a day,” He said smiling at him.

“I don’t know…” Mordred shook his head, snuggling the fox.

“Yeah? Mm… We could go to an amusement park.”
